Our origins are steeped in mystery and folklore, but we can be sure that in 1893 the society was very much alive! After a brief pause, Buxted Bonfire Society was re-ignited in 2017 and since then our family friendly society firmly set down its roots.

Our President
We are deeply honoured to announce that long time Buxted resident, Nelly Branch, is the President of Buxted Bonfire Society.
Nelly devoted many years of service as Secretary of the original Buxted Bonfire Society, showing great dedication to keeping the tradition alive.
At the remarkable age of ninety-two, she once again took her place at the forefront of our celebrations last year, our first Bonfire Night in over four decades, this time leading proceedings from the comfort of the PA van with the same spirit and commitment that has long defined her contribution to bonfire.
We’re so proud to have Nelly at the heart of our Society as we keep our village tradition burning bright.
